Pictures of Deity of Water (掌管一方水神祗)





Shui Shen (水神) aka Deity of Water, being appointed to in-charge of an Areas Water Movement and issues that associated with the Water around in the area where the Deity of Water is being allocated to.

In our Ancient History or Chinese Deity System, the earliest or the first Physical Deity of Water is recorded as Gong Gong (共工), whereas in Taoism, Shui De Xing Jun (水德星君) aka The Star Lord of Water Element is the one who look into the issues or movements that associated with Water.

Gong Gong, exist after Pan Gu (盤古) Opened the Heaven & Earth. A Deity that being appointed to look after the Water in the Ancient Era.

After Gong Gong Era, different Water Deities are being recorded in different Eras, the most famous Female Deity of Water in Three Kingdom is known as Luo Shui Xian Ji – The Water Maiden of Luo Shui (洛水仙姬).

Then later in the History, Shui Xian Zun Wang (水仙尊王) aka The Five Dukes of the Water are being recorded (these 5 people killed themselves or being killed by Water, etc)

So what are the Tasks for the Water Deities?

Their main task is to look after the water in their respective location from being infected by any external issues.

Secondly, to provide enough good water for the Mortals that stayed in the area.

And last, to control the flooding and drought level upon getting orders from their Superiors.

So who must they report to?

Shui Guan Da Di, the Lord Emperor of the Water Realm (下元水官大帝).

So what is the common outlook of Water Deity?

Due to the color of the Element of Water, a lot of Water Deities are being made with the color Black or Blue.

So Water Deities are being illustrated in Snake or Dragon forms, cos folks believed that Dragons & snakes are spirits of Water, etc.

  2. Some of them yes, but usually when an accident happened, means that the person who get killed is being planned, so such Deities might not be able to assist.

  4. oh, okay. but if people were to do "chao du" or help those spirits that died in water-related accident, what will they do?
    this are deities under Shui Fu?

  5. shui xian zun wang i heard is the second most common water,sea-related gods being worshipped in taiwan other than ma zhu =0

  6. Like what I posted, in the past, folks will tend to relate Water Deities with Dragon or Snake.

    Holding the Dragon to represen this is a Water Deity, whereas holding to a crow or whisk to represent Fire.

  7. Chao Du is possible, cos in our Taoism Chao Du, we are able to salvage at least 100 over types of death, dying in water is one of the types.

    All these Deities are under the supervision of Shui Guan Da Di, definitely is under Shui Fu.

  9. Have u heard about 水母娘娘?Last time i heard my auntie said she will go to the river side to pay respect to her on her birthday。

  10. Shui Mu Niang Niang is a very old Ancient Deity that folks pay respect to, just like Long Mu Niang Niang (龍母娘娘).

    Nowadays, seldom folks pay respect to her, cos other Deities have taken over her position in certain blessing.
