Pictures of Ling An Zun Wang aka Duke of Green Mt (靈安尊王)

Ling An Zun Wang (靈安尊王) aka Qing Shan Wang (青山王) or Duke of the Green Mountain. Usually only the Hokkien Clan will pay respect to him as one of the Patron/Ancestor Deity for blessing and Protection.

Today, in China Hokkien Province (中國福建), Nan An Area (南安), Hui An Area (惠安) and Jin Jiang Area (晉江), you still be able to find Temples dedicated to him or find his statues in home altars.

So who is Ling An Zun Wang?

Ling An Zun Wang, real name known as Zhang Gun (張滾), born in the Three Kingdom Period (三國時代), around AD220.

He was one of the assistance General of Dong Wu Kingdom, Duke Sun Quan (東吳孫權副將).

During that era, Zhang Gun was being appointed to station at Hokkien Province, Quan Zhou Area (中國泉州市) to guard against the other Kingdoms from invading.

Due to his credits, merits, loyalty to his Kingdom and the wisdom in Battling, he was being respected as a Deity after his departure from this Mortal World.

In AD265, he was being killed in a battle and at the time he was only 46 years old (享年46歲).

So how he got the title of Qing Shan Wang (Duke of Green Mountain) 如何得到青山王封號?

This happened in Song Dynasty (宋朝年間), at about AD976.

During that era, a newly appointed Magistrate of Hui An Area (惠安新縣官), named Qu Zhi Jie (瞿智節), went to pay respect at Zhang Gun's grave. Just at the point when Qu Zhi Jie kneeled in-front of Zhang Gun's grave, the tomb slanted to one side and a poem appeared.

After reading the poem, Qu Zhi Jie found out that, this was one of the requests that Zhang Gun requested – moved his tomb to the near-by Mountain (named as Qing Shan 青山).

Without any delaying, Qu Zhi Jie moved Zhang Gun's tomb to Qing Shan and built a Temple for Zhang Gun, from then Zhang Gun was also known as Qing Shan Wang.

In Late Song Dynasty (宋朝末年), Zhang Gun was bestowed with an Official title of Cheng Huang by the Song Emperor (被當時宋帝加封為城隍), from then, Zhang Gun was also being respected by the folks as one of the many Cheng Huang.

Every year, on the 22 Day of Lunar 10 Month, the folks will celebrate his birthday (農曆十月二十二日為靈安尊王誕辰).

  2. I noticed that for lots of statues in the past, they tend to have this type of rosary beads on them.

  3. True, only Deities that got the title Duke aka Wang Ye will have such beads with them, this represent authority and also a symbolization of Power.
