Bao Gong (包公) aka Justice Bao, real name of his are Bao Zheng (包拯) aka Bao Wen Zheng (包文正), due to his reputation of up-right and Justice, folks also addressed him as Bao Qing Tian (包青天).
Bao Gong, born in Northern Song Dynasty (北宋), hometown at China He Fei Area (中國合肥).
During his service in the Imperial Court (朝廷), he was being promoted a serveral times due to his credits and merits. The highest position that he got from the Emperor was Long Tu Ge Da Xue Shi (龍圖閣大學士) - Advisor of Military Issues (軍機大事).
In Folks Belief, Bao Gao was able to travel to the Hade during the Night to do investigation on tragedy cases/un-solve cases, etc (日審陽間/夜審陰府).
In his hometown at China He Fei, people are able to see his tomb and besides his tomb, is the tomb of Madam Bao (包夫人).

ReplyDeleteToday, a lot of people still thought that the real appearance of Bao Gong is the same as what they see in Opera or from statues.
Meaning for the Black appearance:
Black Face (烏面) - Justice, no bias (代表鐵面無私/公正).
White Crescent Moon (白月) - Pure, Up-right (清廉/正義).

Shi Fu...is Bao Gong a Deity or only folks belief kind of followers ?....my friends asked me this question when he saw a big tentage dedicated Bao Gong Temple in Sengkang (near to Jalan Kayu roti prata) and I got stuck in answering this question....pls help to clear my doubts???
ReplyDeletehahahahaha.. in folks belief or Chinese Deity System, he is consider as a Deity who can travel to Heaven and the Nether World to do case-hearing for all the innocent souls, etc.
ReplyDeleteBut in true-life, he is an Upright Officer in Song Dynasty.
At that time, when he was still an Officer, he didnt believe in Spiritual Stuffs, such as Ghosts, Deities or etc.. he only believed in Justice and Right Attitude of how mortals should lived with.
After then, in-order to make Bao Gong look Spiritual and Mysterical, folks tend to "add" in a lot of other myths for him.
In Taoism, we respect him as a form of Upright Person or Sage, never like what the folks tend to believe in.
Shi Fu Jave....thanks for the information....meaning the temple to be built in Seng Kang that will eventually house Bao Gong as the main God???...hence we are not praying to a Heavenly Deity but to a ????????.........is my assessment right??

Yes, if i'm not wrong, the temple shall be dedicated to Bao Gong and Bao Gong is consider as their main Deity.

ReplyDeleteBeing Feng, yes, he's one Officer that is being Officially Bestowed by Emperor as Long Tu Ge Da Xue Shi, and till today, he's still known as Da Xue Shi, only after he retired from his position (in Song Dynasty), he was being bestowed as Duke by the Song Emperor (which how true, no record).

ReplyDeleteHahahahaha.. Bao Gong got no Bao Gao. Due to the chaotic era that he lived in at that time and after he passed-away with no Priests or Spiritual Leaders pay-attention-to, no Bao Gao was created for him.
